![]() ![]() Then, everyone is given a bag of pay dirt to sift. We you arrived you are given a demonstration on how to pan for gold. Luckily, I've seen many episodes of the " Gold Rush " TV show so I had a reasonable understanding of how they worked. On the way to the dredge they gave a good narration about how dredges worked. I knew it wouldn't be long, but thought it would take more than 5 minutes and we might see some scenery. The train ride is a BIG disappointment, only lasts a few minutes and is VERY slow. The same gentleman plays fiddle for you before the return departure. Before you take off a nice gentleman who played with Don Ho's band entertains you on guitar. If you don't get an outside seat, don't worry, you won't be missing much and the ride is VERY short. They advertise that seating is first come first served, but to board the train they were telling people to go to the front and fill all the seats up in a line. My advice is to stand at the far end toward the train so you can be one of the first people to the train when the presentation is over. To start they give a little informative talk about the pipeline. They don't even open the gate until after 9:00. Other than that, there isn't much need to get there early. Getting there before the buses is the only way to get good pictures of the pipeline. ![]() There were about 8 of us total plus 4 tour buses. We were one of the few solo travelers on this excursion.
